..that you being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
After being rooted and grounded in the great love of God one can begin to expand to even more glorious heights and depths of this incredible love.
But just as it’s impossible to become rooted and grounded in love apart from God, it’s equally impossible to become acquainted with the expanding depths of His love without interaction with real people.
By very nature it is infinitely expansive. Selah. How can we even begin to grasp this? Tears flow down my cheeks as I type these words. God’s love in your heart is meant to be flowing out like an artesian well. God’s own heart of love kept breaking through every barrier that separated us from Him.
Look at the baby in the manger.
The Royal King, worshipped by myriads of angels, but willing to be found among poor undeserving sinners, found wrapped in rags and lying in a feed trough.
This great love does not and cannot exist in isolation.
If you want in on the glories of His love, then you too will have to be willing to let your love flow among the unlovely.
PERFECT LOVE is not simply “God’s kind of love”, but it’s God’s kind of love experienced AND given away to others who are equally undeserving, yet extravagantly loved by our Father! Perfect love cannot be kept private, without losing the essence of it! It’s greatest glory and joy is found not in receiving but giving.
God’s love cannot be managed. It is not safe. It cannot be earned.
But it can be known! Because His love demands that it be known. It seeks out its beloved. Oh my. I’m undone by this.
His love cannot be earned but it can be received. Because His love moves Him to make a way for it to be enjoyed by others. And this love is most glorified when it is known, and received, and given away by those who deserved it least!
You cannot deserve it or earn it but you can humbly accept it. And you can boldly give it away. Because once you’ve tapped into Him, to His love, you realize you can never exhaust it. And the clearest route to more love is to give away what you have.
That’s what the Father did for you. He gave away the fullness of the love He had for you. And this was not obligation-love. This is extravagant, undeserved, uncreated, infinite love. How can we even begin to grasp this? We begin to grasp it only one way:
